On Saturday, February 17, 2024, NC CRED hosted a Symposium at Duke University School of Law that presented a different vision for the role judges should play in pursuit of equal justice and help reestablish norms of judicial engagement.
Justice Unbound: The Judge’s Duty to Address Bias and Inequality was a thought-provoking event that left nearly 130 participants motivated and eager to continue conversations. “Justice Unbound” was a pivotal platform for engaging in constructive dialogue, sharing innovative ideas, and implementing actionable strategies among legal professionals, policymakers, community leaders, and more to address issues of racial equity and diversity within the judiciary. Over 30 speakers contributed to the discourse.
The event also facilitated learning and connections amongst participants! 95% of attendees are aware of steps they can take to promote equitable outcomes in the criminal justice system. 100% of attendees feel connected to organizations they can collaborate with regarding this work. 95% of attendees see a meaningful role for judges in the effort to mitigate structural racism in the legal system.
