NC CRED is actively advocating for the State Bar to require mandatory CLE courses on bias, inclusion, and diversity.
At present, 18 current or former North Carolina Law School deans and heads of numerous respected organizations have joined us in submitting letters of support calling for a requirement of at least one hour of CLE credit annually on diversity & inclusion, and elimination of bias in the legal profession.
Update: The North Carolina State Bar Council just unanimously voted to approve for publication and comment a new mandatory CLE requirement regarding bias, inclusion and diversity. In June NC CRED created an ad hoc committee and initiated a campaign to have the State Bar adopt such a requirement. We have taken several steps along this path but there is still yet work to be done. One thing we must do is to mobilize significant support among Bar membership to support this proposal during the comment period. More updates to follow. (October 23, 2020)
